Abby aka Anabell

From the moment we met Abby we knew she was a sweetheart. We adopted her in November and she loves her new home. She loves going on walks, running in her new yard, playing in the snow and just being around the family. We had our first Christmas with her and she enjoyed opening her presents. We love having her as part of the family and enjoy being with her all the time. She is so full of energy and always ready to play. Thank you for your service which allowed us to meet Abby.

Sadie-formerly Salem

When we adopted our first dog, Cosmo, almost 3 years ago we instantly became "dog people". We knew that eventually we would love to add a second dog to our family. When our cat, of 18 years, passed away this summer we decided it was time to get Cosmo a new buddy. We instantly began looking on PetFinder.com. We had gone to see a few dogs and puppies but none of them felt right. Then we saw Salem at Magnificent Mutts. We set up an appointment with Eileen to meet Salem. From the moment we saw her we knew Salem was the one. Cosmo, on the other hand, was not so sure and started growling and showing his teeth. Uncomfortable with bringing her home that night we waited until the next day to think it over. Determined to make it work we went to the adoption event at the Hillside Petco the next day and made Salem, now known as "Sadie", the newest member of our family. When we brought her home we followed the advice of the volunteers at Magnificent Mutts for introducing Cosmo to his
new baby sister. After a short "meet and greet" in the back yard things seemed to be going well so we moved into the house. To our delight, in only a couple of hours Cosmo was even laying with Sadie on the floor in the kitchen, which is their first official photo together. Over the weeks Cosmo became more and more used to Sadie and her puppy habits. It has been about 2 months since we got Sadie and they are now the best of buddies and play all the time. Aside from being a little slow on the potty training (though she has been making great progress with some tips from the vet) we have no complaints about Sadie. She is the sweetest girl with the best disposition and loves to cuddle. She has even helped her big brother Cosmo shed a few extra pounds by all the romping in the yard! Sadie has been a wonderful addition to our family and we thank Magnificent Mutts for helping bring her into our home and all that they do every day.

I love my bully, Peanut-Butter

Hi my name is Fabian; I just adopted my new best friend, peanut butter a pit bull. Peanut is sooo good and so loving once he gets to know you, I guess he doesn't like video games or TV because he ate both my Xbox and my TV controller, but is cool. He makes me laugh so much, even more when he plays with Gizmo a 2 year old yorky , the yorky is peanuts bully but peanut just puts him on the floor with just one paw to let him know who is the boss, the big powerful pit-bull, my gentle giant. Today he was having a lot of fun playing on the snow with Gizmo and eating snow too. Did I mention he pushes me off the bed? It's ok, at least I am really warm at night. I can't wait to get home to play with him after work every night. He is one cool dog, a man's dog.

Taylor's Happy Tail (Garnett)

We adopted Taylor (formerly Garnett ~ Leonberger mix) on March 10th and she has been an important member of our family ever since! Taylor is playful and funny but also extremely loyal and protective of our family. We couldn't have asked for a better fit for our family than her.....we truly love her!
Over the summer Taylor came with us on our vacation to Ely, Minnesota ~ up in the northern woods on Lake Burntside. I am pretty sure that Taylor thought she was in doggy heaven! She loved it there! She went boating and swimming with us and she absolutely loved laying on the dock watching the kids swim and the loons float by.
Taylor got her first real taste of snow recently and she loves to run around in it and push her nose through it. She runs around like it's her new playground!
Taylor has 2 best friends (boyfriends). Our neighbor dog behind us and our neighbor dog next to us have been Taylor's playmates since she was a puppy. She has so much fun running around with them and wrestling. If we say their names to her she will run to the back door to go out and find them.
We are so happy with Taylor and we are so incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity for her to join our family. Thank you SO much Magnificent Mutts!!!

Cubby's Happy Tail

Dear Karen (my foster mom),

I want to thank you for taking care of me and many others until you found a permanent home for us. I appreciate all your kindness, care, and your unconditional love.

I am doing very well. My new family loves me very much and they always reward me for good behavior. I do not bark at strangers anymore and have become more relaxed and friendly. But I still like to pull the leash (lol). They do not mind it because they believe it burns a lot of my energy (they call it, "my form of exercising" :)). And as you probably remember, I love car rides, and now, I have a special seat from where I can see everything.

Just recently, my parents got me a sister. She comes from an Indiana puppy mill. At first, she was scared of humans, but I helped her assimilate into her new life. I taught her how to walk on the leash and now, we take a walk together every day. It's a lot of fun.

Here is my new pictures (with her in the back). Thank you again for all your help. Happy holidays! I'll be in touch.

Love,

Cubby

Remy and Lulu

We adopted Remy and Lulu (formerly Remy Sue and Allie Lou) at the Adoption event at the Walter Payton Roundhouse. We love our new pups! They are adjusting well to their new home. They love the attention they are getting and will work hard for a milk bone treat!
Lulu (the spotted one) is a calm, relaxed pup who loves to snuggle in your lap. Her favorite thing to do is play frisbee in the backyard. Remy (the black one) is very smart and very active. Remy's favorite thing to do is play soccer. The pups get along very well. They love to chase each other around the house and play tug of war together.
We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year and the puppies behaved perfectly. They did not bark and allowed others to hold them without a problem.
Thanks to Magnificent Mutts for bringing these puppies into our lives!

Sophia Louise

About 2 months ago, I adopted Sophia Louise (formerly known as Buffy). I had loss my cocker spaniel about a year ago from cancer and didn't think I wanted to go thru having a pet again. But, it's like God matched her up to me !! We are so good for each other !! I have had many pets, but she has got to be the best one I've ever had! She loves to sit on my lap and sleep on the bed with me. She loves to cuddle !! I think Sophie (short for Sophia) needed me as much as I needed her. She is always right with me when I am home, as if she's afriad that I will leave her. She really is funny when she plays with her toys ! I bought her a "cat condo" that she sits in all the time and looks out the window. When the sun hits it, she snuggles up in the warmth of the sun. She seems very regal, which is why I gave her a kind of regal name. She's very clean with herself, never makes a mess, and is always waiting at the door when I come home from work ! I think she is one of the b
est cats I have ever known. I am SO happy that I found her !! I would definitely recommend adopting a homeless pet. I think they are so thankful that you rescued them that they try to be the best for you so that they don't end up homeless again. I wouldn't part with my Sophie for ANYTHING !!!

Edgar's Happy Tail

HI Karen, thank you for the photo! Great of Edgar, not so good of me! He's much more photogenic! Edgar (my adult kids are sending me lists of names because they don't think Edgar is good enough for him!) is sooooo sweet! He's been wonderful. Not so good with the cats, though. Running cats are much different than cats in cages, I guess. My one cat, is fine with him. She will glare at him, and he knows not to mess with her. They even ate a morning treat almost side by side this morning. They will be just fine. My younger cat is a runner. She has never walked through the house. She is a little race car, and of course that gets his terrier instincts going. so, she runs because she can, then he chases, and she gets scared and hides upstairs. I think they will be fine, but it will take a LONG time for them. Meanwhile, I've moved her food and water and litter box upstairs, so if she doesn't want to come down, she doesn't have to.

I'm surprised at how well he listens already! He understands "NO" very well! Also, when left in his crate downstairs the last 2 nights when I go to bed, he will whine and bark a little bit. As soon as I say "Edgar be quiet", he is immediately quiet and sleeps quietly the rest of the night. He loves to walk, and is going to make a great walking partner. He is signed up for obedience classes at Petsmart starting in Jan. because I want him to be an extremely well behaved house dog. He already is, but I need to know how to keep him that way!

I love HIM! My kids, granddaughter and assorted inlaws are coming for a late Thanksgiving on Sat. and they will all love him!

As I'm typing on the computer here, he is sleeping in his crate with the door open. I only lock him in at night, and if my younger cat ever comes downstairs, I will lock him in for a little while then, too.

Tomorrow he gets his stitches out, his physical, his microchip in, and also I am having them check his skin because he's still so "itchy". I don't think he can still have fleas!

Thank you Karen for responding to my email so quickly. If you hadn't I would have missed getting this wonderful little guy. I will send you an update in a few weeks or so, as I get to know him better. Marge

Athena's Happy Tail

Hello,
Just a quick update on Athena. She's completed both puppy and beginner obedience courses. We're now in our second round of the beginner course and could take that a few times before we are ready for advanced. During class, Athen receives compliments from the instructor. She's doing very well! She's still a puppy, but I think in the long run, she will get her CGC, and go on to become a therapy dog. Attached, please find a photo of her we took while receiving trick-or-treaters last weekend. She's up to 65 pounds and still growing! We love her very much.
Our best,
Nicole & Cormac Connolly

Whimsy's Happy Tail

I adopted the happy dog formerly known as Cassidy (now named Whimsy Clover) at the rescue event hosted at the Roundhouse. I can't believe I've only had Whimsy for two weeks--it feels like we've belonged to each other forever! She has done so well since her first night, and as she's gotten more comfortable and secure her personality keeps coming out. She has wonderful manners--so affectionate, cuddly, well-behaved, and housebroken without any effort on my part! She gets fabulous bursts of energy and loves to leap and jump--she is so agile and energetic! She also goes crazy with joy when she gets to chase squirrels. Thank you for letting me take her home right away. I attached a photo of her on her favorite sofa. -Sarah

greatest puppy ever!

*Three cheers* Magnificent mutts! Yay!
On September 29 we adopted Milo (then Ho-ho) an 8 week old lab mix. He is the love of my life always keeping me on my toes, making me laugh, and keeping me company in the morning while I¡¦m getting ready for work. My family has absolutely fallen in love with Milo. He spends the days with grandma and grandpa (my parents) while I¡¦m at work and is so happy to see me when I come home, he makes even the longest horribly crappiest day melt away. It warms my heart just thinking about it. Not to mention he¡¦s become the best running buddy ever! When I feel like stopping to take a breath Milo takes the end of the leash and pulls/nudges me forward, HE is my second wind. He keeps me going. He is getting so big so fast ƒ¼ but I can¡¦t imagine my life without him. He is an extraordinarily intelligent dog taking to his puppy training quickly it amazes me just how much he understands. Milo is so friendly and cute everybody loves him even my co workers who have only met him through the pict
ures on my computer desktop. You¡¦ll be happy to also know that he is the picture of health and just finished his last round of shots (yesterday actually) and is due back for his neuter in three weeks. I¡¦m just crossing my fingers that everything goes smoothly there. Well it¡¦s time for our run, thank you again for bringing Milo into our lives, I know you must hear people say this all the time but he is truly the perfect family dog. We love him pieces! God bless!

Milo is 5 months

We brought Milo home in August to expand our family. Nero our 2 yr old black lab needed a little buddy it was a little rough the first week but I am glad to say everything is great! They bring toys to each other and even wait for the other when taking walks. Even though they have their own crates I always find Milo curled up with Nero in his.

We are a happy and complete family.

The Austin's

Ruby

Hi Magnificent Mutts! My family adopted Cutie from you in August - she was one of the Lab mix pups from a litter born to a stray rescued by your organization. We renamed her Ruby and she has fit right in with our family. My daughter is 16 mos old and she and Ruby are the best of pals. Ruby is a great runner and her and I go for morning jogs several days a week. She is a great dog.
Could you please email me the date of her birth? We want to know the date for our records with the vet and so we can celebrate her birthday. Thank you - Krista Peterson

P.S. I've attached a few of our favorite pictures.

Kayla Happy Ending

Hi Cate:

Just a quick note to let you know that Kayla is doing great!

She loves going for walks, curling up with us on the couch, getting her hair brushed, and keeping me company in the morning as I get ready for work. She is so sweet and tender and we just lover her to bits! The first day was a bit scary for her, but after that she was eating and drinking like a champ.

Thanks!

Maksim's Happy Tail

Hi Sonia,

Max is doing great! He has been such a wonderful addition to our family. He and our other dog Casey are best friends, they have so much fun together and play all the time. Max is definietly Mia's boy - he follows her everywhere and sleeps with her in bed every night. Mia is extremely loving with our animals and Max and really taken to her.

Max has been very healthy. He was at the vet last month and he weighs 68 pounds! His teeth are clean and the doctor said that he is in great physical shape. Next weekend he is going in for his six week bath, teeth brushing and nail trim. He always looks so handsome when we pick him up!

Next month hosts a wonderful event called Dogtober Fest. Last year we brought Casey along and we are so excited this year to be able to bring Max along as well. It's such a fun event geared towards dogs and their owners.

I'm attaching a few photos of Max, Casey and Mia. Casey was adopted from Magnificent Mutts also!

Sincerely, Debi

Ramsey's Happy Tail

Hi everyone,

Just a quick email to let you know that Ramsey is settling in very quickly in our home. Willow is very accepting of Ramsey as he has appropriated alot of her chew/squeaky toys. No incidents between Willow and Ramsey at all. They actually met face to face in the laundry room; I was nervous that there might be an issue in a close space, but Ramsey just licked her face and walked on. He slept in our room last night on the floor by Jack's side of the bed (Willow sleeps on my side).

Melanie had at least 8 kids in and out of the house and back garden yesterday afternoon and Ramsey was fine with all the activity. He lay down right next to the trampoline with a guess what?--tennis ball in his mouth!

We did notice yesterday that when he jumped out of the car and again when he jumped off our bed (he jumped up on the bed for a tummy rub) that he yelped very loudly. Did you notice any issues with him or did the vet notice anything? I will have the vet look into it, but just wanted to see if you noticed any issues with his front end? It would be helpful to pass any info onto our vet.

I will keep you posted on how thing are going.

We are very happy to have Ramsey in our life!!

Our Zoe Bug

We adopted Zoe in February. We knew we would be able to give her a good home, and change her life for the best. It turns out, she changed our life for the best! We are so lucky to have such a well behaved and loveable puppy! Zoe is very active and really enjoys her daily walks and runs in the nearby park. Unfortunately for us, when she plays hard, she sleeps even harder (usually sprawled across our bed!). She loves to give hugs and kisses and we can not imagine life without her! Her nickname is "our little zoe bug"!

Toews now Buddy

Hi,

I adopted Toews the leonberger mix at the Pet Palooza at the Elmhurst Animal Clinic on July 17th..

Just an update we have renamed him to "Buddy" and he is doing well with my other dog Allie.

If the owner of Kane is interested in keeping in contact with us, to keep up to date with the brothers. we would welcome that.

Otherwise Buddy (Toews) has gained 10 pounds and enjoys playing with his sister Allie.
He's a truly loveable dog. He knows his tricks and loves to give "high 5". He hates to be reprimanded and pouts when scolded. He wants to please. Everyone who meets him, instantly falls in love as did we when we saw him...

I've attached a picture of the two of them

Laura Hascek

Ace now Kentucky's Happy Tail

Hi Sonia
Yes he's behaving, When I'm watching him that is. He loves to sit on furniture, and chew on paper, he ate my copy of "The Things They Carried" oh Well! I can definately tell you that we've bonded I can't go anywhere without him following me. He's stubborn but a fast learner. He already has learned to ignore the neighbors when they are in their yard and if i go out of the yard he stays in the yard as long as i'm in his line of sight. We go for long walks and the occasional three mile run , he's just awesome. I was not expecting all the attention from strangers(WHo KNew). Everyone thinks he's beautiful. The day I brought him home I plopped on a back yard chair and he simply lay at my feet as if he'd been here for years. I knew then that this guy was my friend. Thank you.I broke down and bought a pinch collar. Since then, walking him and getting him to sit is easier. He definately needs to meet other dogs. I have decided to call him Kentucky. Following this emal i will send yo
u some pictures I took with my phone. Best Regards.

Riley aka Murdoch

He gets a bath. At 6 months old he is now 53 pounds and still growing! photos attached

Jeva and Tova Happy Tails

Linda,

Thank you for everything you do to make Magnificent Mutts the greatest!

We are so happy to have Jeva and Tova in our lives! It's hard to believe slightly more than a year ago, we adopted our wonderful Border Collie sisters!

I recall when we first met them with their mom (formerly Millie) and their nine siblings. I knew when I first layed eyes on mom and her litter, I wanted all of them. Millie did everything in her power to make sure she provided food for all of them, and they were all quite content. She was adopted by a neighbor of ours and is continuing to do well. Jeva and Tova enjoy and look forward to mommy-daughters playtime. Tova excels in agility and Jeva is a couch potato wanna be. Two opposites work in our household. Potty training was a breeze and so was obedience training.

For those individuals who wonder if they can survive the challenge a Parvo-virus affected dog, always be comforted in knowing when you give to a Parvo dog, they give 100% plus back to you. We can speak from experience, and now our dogs immune systems are the strongest ever.

We are thankful to be blessed with these awesome animals---they are truly Magnificent!!

With the deepest appreciation from all of us!

Here is a photo of the two cuties in their furever home!

Bean now Koda

Hi Courtenay and Karen,

I just wanted to send a quick e-mail about Bean's (now known as Koda) progress. She's getting along very well with the cats and has adjusted to the city life. She's even learned to fetch and give paw. We're still having problems with other dogs - she nipped one a couple weeks ago - but we're working on it with some trainers and I'll be signing her up for a "Growl class" at the Best Friends Windy City K9 Club in Chicago. I think I just need to build her confidence since she only reacts poorly around new dogs or when other dogs react to her.

I was also wondering if there was some way to find out how she ended up at Magnificent Mutts? Whether she was a stray or given up, etc.

Just wanted to let you know that she's doing fine and that we're making progress. I've also attached a few pictures. Thanks for all your help!

Sincerely,
Lucy

Scrappy's Happy Tail

Hi Cate - I just wanted to drop you a note about "Scrappy." He's doing very well and charms everyone he meets. He's very gentle and relaxed with kids and adults. He's a dream dog. We've been to Petco and he picked out his own toy before we realized it. Thank you for all your help and kindness - Dolores

Tianna's Update

Tianna was rescued from the Chicago Animal Control with her two brothers, they were all very shy and did not trust people in the least. Here are a few pictures of her in her new furever home!

Suzie Update

Look at this beautiful girl! She continues to amaze us day after day and has been training just wonderfully. We go to the German Shepherd Chicago Club once a week for obedience training, and have also joined our local park district course for eight weeks. I personally like the German Shepherd Club more, but puppy dog just loves both. She heels wonderfully and has "Sit" down to a science (even the trainers are impressed!)…we are improving on "down", "stay" and "come" everyday.

We do continue to struggle a bit with separation anxiety, but do see improvements. As after much reading and talking with others, it seems to be a common train amongst rescue dogs. If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them. One thing we often consider is the possibility of another dog…as she just adores her neighbors and the dog park, we believe having someone else home with her when we are out might work wonders. The other side of that is that we want to have her a bit better trained as we walk a lot and the logistics of having a 60+ lb. dog with another dog could become a bit more complex! We do keep our eyes on your website and Pet Finder, as well as our local Naperville shelter all the time.

We are so happy that this placement worked out so well...thank you!
Katie and Rob Sperl
